Hi,
Sugar Rose Spray I Made For My Daughters Wedding Cake. The Largest Roses & Largest Single Spray I've Ever Made. The Base Of Each Rose I Made Of The Modelling Paste Over A Twisted Loop Of The Strongest Florist Wire, Then Let Dry For Weeks, As These Have To Be Totally Dry For Maximum Strength. Then Add The Coloured Petals In Layers Letting Each Dry Before Adding Another (Lightening Each Layer). Usually Overnight. When All Dry & Made Leaves Using A Ivy Leaf Cutter & Veiner For Texture, I Wired The Lot Together On A Green Plastic Coated Coathanger Which Was Looped Around The Supporting Stick Under Marg & Touched The Bottom Board. This Had To Be Done After The Cakes Were Arranged There Is No Way To Check The Position Otherwise.
I Use CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) In My Modelling Paste & This Is Also The Glue For Putting The Flowers Together...
About 6 Hours To Make 14 Flowers,
3 Hours For 117 Leaves
& 4 Hours To Arrange
Thanks For Looking Any Questions Or Comments Appreciated ...

What a fantastic job and a gift that will never be forgotten.

If you have the time, could you write to me and let me know how long it took you to learn cake decorating? Is it difficult? The reason I ask is because my parent's 50th anniversary is coming up and I would love to make them a tiered cake.

I will be taking a beginner's course in May...Wilton method and will have time to take the other courses (hopefully!:)

You can reach me at canookie@gmail.com

Thank you in advance

ThankYou ... I Can't Really Say As I Started Before I Can Remember My Mum Had A Picture That Shows Me Holding A Decorated Cake That I Thought She Made ... But She Told Me Later That I Had made It ...
I Didn't Really Start Making Them Until I Volunteered To Make A Friends Two Tier Wedding Cake It Was 25.11.1995 ... It Was A Nightmare ... For Me But They Loved It ... I Had Never Made Plastic Icing & Was Too stubborn To Buy It Ready Made ... & Had Never Made Sugar Paste Flowers Before ... But Some How We Got It To The Wedding ... I Had Months Notice But We Had So Many Dramas That We Ended Up Missing Half Of The Ceremony ... & Only Just Had It Set Up At The Reception As The Bride & Groom Came In ...
The Only Instruction I Had Was The First Couple Of Books Out Of A Cake Decorating Series That Ended Up Being Over 100 Books ... I Stopped Getting Them At Number 11 ...
It Definitely Would've Been Easier If I Had Done Some Sort Of Course ... Would've Saved A Lot Of Mistakes ... Like Powder Glucose & Liquid Glucose Are TOTALLY Different ... You Can't Just Add Water !!! Hence My First Plastic Icing Failure ...
If You Have Time Trial , Error & Practice Are More Fun ... & Most Of My Ideas & Recipes Are Original Rather Than Just Copied ... I Probably Ended Up In The Same Place But I've Always Just Taught Myself Anything I Wanted To Do ... Cheers Mark
